Albert lives in Stavanger together with another Briard named Ludvig. First time I saw Albert was when I lived in Stavanger. He was only a puppy, but I still remember what I was thinking when I saw him. “Gosh, he was a handsome little fellow and if he entered the show ring he would make a good impression!”
Albert never entered conformation. He never competed in anything, but Vidar and Guro have been on courses and they’ve practiced with him in obedience, cycling and other normal dog activities.
After I moved to US and I started to think about breeding Mira, Albert’s name came up as a possible father of her puppies. I called my friend Tonje T. Solberg that helped me out walking Betty in tracking competition. She’s also a dog breeder and knows a lot about dogs. I asked her if she would meet Albert and Mira and give me a opinion what she thought of the combination. I also gave her a long list of what she should look after when she saw them. Thanks to Vidar, Guro, Jette and Kjell Tore that made this meeting possible. Also a big thanks for the nice movies of the dogs.
Tonje gave me a go ahead signal and after looking at the tape and the photos, I decide to breed Mira and Albert. He still looks handsome and he has the kind of energy I like the Briards to have.
Mira’s and Albert’s “parents” tried to get those two dogs breed together in 2009. Mira was in season in the Easter holiday and Albert invited Mira to “his” cottage. The logs in the fire place was burning and love was in the air, but they never came to the point of doing it... No mating, no puppies....
The fall came, and Mira came in new season. Than they met several days and places in Stavanger, but still no mating....
The third time it would happened. That's the lucky number... I didn’t like to take any chances this time, so when Mira was in season again I ordered tickets home to Norway to fix it myself. Thanks for letting me borrow Albert for a over whole week, and for letting me breed him with Mira!
As I was told, everything looked ok with Albert and Mira, but to be on the safe side I went to the vet to check the quality of the semen which was very fine. We inseminated Mira and luckily they did it the natural way the day after this.
We are expecting puppies at the end of June 2010.
